Guideline for Weld Joint Finishes — Stainless Steel

  • Components to be welded and/or polished must have “Class A”, “Class B”, “Class C” or “Special” cosmetic classification prior to acceptance of Customer Purchase Order.
  • Specifications are as follows

Class A
One-Piece Appearance — Most Costly

Welder will add filler so no under-cut will be present. Welds will be ground smooth and entire surface will be polished to a one-piece appearance.

 

 

 

Class B
Minimal Touch-Up — Less Costly

Welder will TIG weld with no filler so under-cut will be present. Welds will not be ground. Discoloration from welding and marks from straightening will not be present. Minor scratches or die marks will be removed with 3M pad. Entire surface will not be re-polished.

 

 

Class C
No Touch-Up — Least Costly

Welder will TIG weld with no filler, so under-cut will be present. Welds will not be ground. Discoloration from welding and marks from straightening will be present. Minor scratches and/or die marks will be present. Entire surface will not
